Less is More Challenge - Autumn - watercolor stamping

34
Evening everyone!

Still no sign of baby C, so I'm keeping calm busy by making cards - it's been the most productive I've been in a long while (and great timing for the #thedailymarker30day3 The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge too!).

Today's card is also for Less is More Week 245 - One Layer Card 'Autumn'. I decided to use some solid image stamps in my stash to do a bit of 'faux' watercoloring using autumnal / fall colors.

Card Recipe:
  1. Using watercolor card stock (I used the textured side of Tim Holtz card) mask off a strip diagonally across the card with post-it tape (or other masking tape/post-it notes).
  2. Take the small solid butterfly from the Simon Says Stamp Butterfly Friends stamp set and scribble Mustard Seed Distress marker over the image.  Edge with Spiced Marmalade Distress marker.
  3. Stamp onto unmasked strip, then take a damp brush (I used a Grumbacher round number 4) spread the colour to blend and achieve a look that you like.  Repeat along the strip.   I also stamped two other butterflies with Barn Door and edged in Fired Brick.
  4. While the butterflies are drying, stamp the small solid leaf from the set by coloring with Shabby Shutters Distress marker and dotting with Peeled Paint at the base of each leaf.  Blend with clean damp brush ( I used a Grumbacher round number 2) as before.
  5. For the darker leaves, I used Peeled Paint as the base and Forest Moss Distress markers for the accent.  Be sure to rotate the stamp to achieve a more random look.
  6. Use Vintage Photo marker (or ink) to stamp the three dots from the SSS Flower Friend stamp set.   Use damp brush to blend.
  7. Once the butterflies are almost dry, scribble the accent colors on an acrylic block and edge the wing tips, blending down with clean water.
  8. When almost dry, dot Vintage Photo on the butterfly wing tips.
  9. Before removing the post-it tape, VERY lightly edge round the strip with Vintage Photo Distress ink and an ink blending tool.  Peel off tape.
  10. Stamp sentiment in Versafine Onyx Black from SSS Flower Friend stamp set.

As I used Tim Holtz watercolor paper I had to adhere it to a Neenah Solar white 110lb cardbase (8.5" x 5,5" scored at 4.5" for a top folding landscape card) using Be Creative tape.    I know for a one layer card is technically cheating but they did do it in the OLC Online Card Class so I figured it would be allowed ;)

Hope you enjoyed the card - I really liked making it.  If no baby C this week then there will probably be a few more on the blog before the week is out!

Until then, enjoy the long weekend to all the US folks - hopefully the lovely weather will hold out!

Jenny
