It Takes a Long Time...

Morning all !

It's been ridiculously busy at work the past couple of weeks. I've not been able to get into my craft room more than once, and that was to make my AAA Design Team card.  This week we're playing with Easter colors.   To me that says pastel pinks, blues and yellows.    My in-laws are also celebrating their 43rd (!!!!) wedding anniversary this week so I decided this card was going to be an anniversary card for them (rather than an Easter card).

The stamp is an awesome one from Mama Elephant called 'Tree Friends'.  I've not yet had a chance to use it as I only recently bought it, although the stamp itself is a couple of years old (wish they'd bring out some matching die cuts!).  It has lots of cute woodland animals and woodsy elements, but I decided to go for the piece de resistance - the large tree stamp.  It's so detailed, I thought it would be perfect for coloring with my Prisma Colors.

I stamped the tree with Stazon in black as I knew I was going to be blending with Gamsol.   I don't know about you but i often find my Stazon black ink doesn't get a great impression  first time.  As this was such a large stamp I decided to use my MISTI to ensure that I could re-stamp if the impression wasn't great the first time - lucky I did - the inner part of the tree was extremely splotchy the first time!!  I stamped again and bam! perfect.  LOVE the MISTI!

The tree and blossoms were all colored with 2 shades each and then blended with Gamsol.  I also used a white gellyroll from Sakura to create centers for the tiny blue flowers, and a glitter orange gellyroll for the pink flower centers to add a very subtle sparkle.  I heat embossed the wonderful sentiment in Ranger Liquid Platinum embossing powder using Versamark ink. To finish it off, I used some yellow blossom sequins from Simon Says Stamp, attached with Ranger Multi Medium Matte, and popped it all up on foam tape on  Neenah 110lb card stock backed with yellow polka dot patterned paper (something from my stash).  To finish, i rounded all the corners with the 1/4" corner chomper.

The game is open now until April 11th, there are prizes to be won, and some great inspiration from the rest of the Design Team - make sure you hop on over and enter !

Have a great day,

I'm Speechless! AAA Cards Challenge

Morning everyone!

Spring has finally arrived I am happy to report :)  The mounds of snow concrete are finally melting, the sun is shining, and I have dispensed with the gloves and hat.   At long last no more hat hair at work!

The new AAA Cards Challenge is up, and it's a great one to get your creative design juices flowing.  Bare Naked CAS Design - a super clean and simple card, with lots of white space.  I decided to take this literally, and here's what I came up with:

I used Papertrey Ink's Bubble Talk' die and cut each bubble from 80 lb Neenah Solar White card stock, popped up on foam squares on Neenah Solar White 110 lb card stock.  I thought this gave a really cool, clean finish, and with the thick foam squares I used, some cool shadows, which you can see in the photo.

The sentiment is from Simon Says Stamp's Many Thanks stamp set.  I thought it would be quite funny with the empty speech bubbles!!  I used Versafine in Onyx Black to stamp it.  (In hindsight it was awkward to stamp in the location i chose.  I should have stamped it first then stuck down the speech bubbles!)

The heart was an afterthought (to cover a bit of ink smudge from the sentiment) cut from a scrap of red card stock using the same Bubble Talk PTI die set.  It adds a great pop of color that I think perfectly completed the card.

I was itching to add some glossy accents or some other embellishment to the heart but given the theme of the game i thought no, less is more!

I'm also entering this into the Addicted to Stamps challenge ' Anything Goes' and the Time Out challenge #27 'Clean and Simple'.

That's it from me, have a great weekend everyone!

Exciting News - AAA Cards Challenge

Good morning everyone!

I have exciting news to announce today - the wonderful Design Team at the AAA Cards Challenge have asked me to join them as a member.  Eeeeek!! It will be my first foray into Design Team territory, and it couldn't be with a more talented bunch of lovely ladies.

If you aren't familiar with the AAA Cards Challenge, I highly recommend going and checking it out.  It is CAS focused, and a new inspiration word/photo is posted every couple of weeks.   Also check out the Design Team's blogs, you'll see some amazing cards.

This weeks challenge is 'Rain' (still a lot of snow here sadly!!) with a watercolor focus.

My card is below.  I used the Hero Arts Background stamp in Fresh Cut Raindrops which I stamped in Versamark ink and then embossed in Judikins Iridescent Sparkle embossing powder for some shimmer.

I then used Distress Inks for watercoloring  in Picked Raspberry, Peacock Feathers and Squeezed Lemonade.

I really love the look of Distress Inks in watercoloring. They mix so wonderfully - check out the pretty purple and green colors where the colors overlap :)    I pooled up the paint more at the top of the card so that it ran and faded out (adding extra water) towards the bottom of the card, for a softer look.

The background was cut out using a Stitched Rectangle die from Lil Inkers and popped up on foam tape onto a Neenah Desert Storm card base.

For the sentiment, I used PaperTrey Ink's Wet Paint Cuts Die Collection (this includes five words - Happy, used here, as well as Thanks, Hello, Enjoy and Love).  I stacked five cuts on top of each other in Neenah 85lb Solar White except the bottom cut which was a pale blue card (not sure which!)

Finally the 'You' was a Tim Holtz sticker, and the 'Make Me' was from the "You' Simon Says Stamp stamp set, in Versafine.  I finished it off with some more "rain" using Glossy Accents which I think looks so pretty just on its own!

I hope you enjoyed the card, please go check out AAA Cards and enter - we love to see what everyone comes up with !!

Have a wonderful weekend.
